A poll on the Hays LinkedIn page of over 3,000 people highlighted flexibility as the main advantage of choosing contracting over a permanent role. IT contractors can enjoy remote working, flexible hours and a better work-life balance. They also have the freedom to choose projects according to their priorities, be it higher pay or client prestige.

High demand for IT contractors means potential for higher pay. Contractors often receive better rates of pay, more overtime, and potential tax benefits, while organizations benefit from specialists who help them solve problems in shorter timeframes.

For example, a Java Developer can earn on average 245 RON per hour, while a QA Manual 150 RON per hour and a Business Analyst 230 RON per hour. Contractors often need to start immediately, rather than going through a longer onboarding process. While it's true that you will be hired for your existing skills, there is still an emphasis on acquiring new knowledge and honing your skills quickly within the role.

Contracting also means freedom from workplace politics and the stressors associated with a traditional career.
